Poetry readings: Culture for Peace – Art and Poetry in Solidarity with Palestine
Casa de Campo, Madrid
In times of political and institutional crisis, war, and violence against the civilian population, culture, more than ever, presents itself as a space of refuge, in which to generate visions for a peaceful future. International dialogue and collaboration are key tools for contributing to a strong public discourse that speaks out for an end to the genocide in Palestine and for a negotiated solution to the conflict that respects the existence of the Palestinian people, their territory, and their human rights.
With Manar Idris, Nick Aikens, Sada Safadi. In partnership with Teja Network of Cultural Spaces in Times of Emergency and L’Internationale, this poetry reading features poems by Palestinian authors featured in Rana Issa’s contribution ‘We Have Ben Here Forever. Palestinian Poets Write Back’, part of the publication Towards Collective Study in Times of Emergency. The open-air recital features Palestinian poets writing from the 1940s and the Nakba era to the 1970s and those writing in Gaza today.
With this programme, the Reina Sofía Museum joins the Culture for Peace initiative, promoted by the Ministry of Culture through the Subdirectorate General for International Relations and the European Union, in collaboration with the Embassy of the State of Palestine in Spain, and with the support and participation of ten institutions.

The Soils Project
‘The Soils Project’ is part of an eponymous, long-term research initiative involving TarraWarra Museum of Art (Wurundjeri Country, Australia), the Van Abbemuseum (Eindhoven, Netherlands) and Struggles for Sovereignty, a collective based in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. It works through specific and situated practices that consider soil, as both metaphor and matter.
Seeking and facilitating opportunities to listen to diverse voices and perspectives around notions of caring for land, soil and sovereign territories, the project has been in development since 2018. An international collaboration between three organisations, and several artists, curators, writers and activists, it has manifested in various iterations over several years. The group exhibition ‘Soils’ at the Van Abbemuseum is part of Museum of the Commons. -
