The Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (MNCARS)

The Museo Reina Sofía wishes to embody a different museum concept, where the experience of contemporary art is both a source of enjoyment and knowledge. With twenty-six years behind it, the Museo boasts a major collection of contemporary art including important artists such as Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Salvador Dalí, Juan Gris, Robert Delaunay, Georges Braque, Yves Klein, Robert Motherwell, Francis Bacon, Richard Serra, Alexander Calder, René Magritte, Gerhard Richter, Antoni Muntadas, Miguelangelo Pistoletto, Sol LeWitt and Marcel Broodthaers. Pablo Picasso's Guernica is a key work in the Collection, as Avant-garde experimentation intersects with art's stance in the face of violence.

Investigation, experimentation and public approaches map the route of our temporary exhibitions programme. As a catalyst for ideas, discourses and poetics, the Museo Reina Sofía envisages the exhibition as a first-rate intervention device in the sphere of contemporary art and culture on a national and international scale. Based on the idea of an expanded museum, the Reina Sofía offers an intensive programme of audiovisuals and live arts, and is a continuous forum for thought, debate and education designed for all ages through courses, conferences and workshops in which visitors take centre stage.
