Nurgul Balac

Nurgul is a Turkish-born artist, educator, and researcher based in Calgary, Canada. Working across ceramics, performance, video, and socially engaged practices, her work explores migration, belonging, memory, and materiality. Drawing on embodied and sensory approaches to knowledge-making, she often works with locally sourced clay bodies to investigate the relationship between land, identity, and diasporic experience. Nurgul’s practice bridges artistic research, pedagogy, and community engagement, particularly through collaborations with immigrant and racialized women artists. Her work has been exhibited and presented in exhibitions, conferences, and community-based projects in Canada and internationally.
