Kroplya
Kroplya (b. 2000, Belarus) is a young multidisciplinary artist and curator currently based in Baltics, working with text-based art, site-specific installations and new media.
In her practice, she explores the intersections of philosophy, and socio-political reality, examining the fractures between these ways of perceiving the world. With her work she often researches language and its (im)possibilities — as a tool of communication, safe space and a mechanism of control. Her works often function as spaces for dialogue, addressing identity, the contradictions of political systems, and the operations of propaganda. Her research centers on the socially-engaged art practices and politics of memory in the context of forced migration, with a special focus on Eastern Europe. Kroplya regularly participates in alternative educational programs organised on different levels starting from small communities and ending with projects like School of Common Knowledge by L’Internationale. She also explores the possibilities of independently producing exhibitions with the support of art groups and activist organizations (such as Kerege in Kazakhstan, circle in cube in Estonia, etc.), as well as large-scale events such as the Democracy Exchange Summit Toronto. Her curatorial projects range from grassroots projects at the academy level to projects such as the {de}construct art laboratory at Zuzeum Art Center in Latvia.
